Dharamshala: Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration sought an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama this morning.
Speaking to Tibet TV after the audience, Sikyong said he briefed His Holiness the Dalai Lama on the activities of Kashag (cabinet) including his recent visit to Latin America and the United States. Sikyong said the minutes of the recently concluded Permanent Strategy Committee Meeting were also presented to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Sikyong mentioned that His Holiness the Dalai Lama is hoping to see many people visit India during His Holiness’ scheduled visit to Bodh Gaya, Bihar in December this year.
Sikyong also recalled His Holiness’ emphasis on the vital role of the Tibetan language in understanding and learning Tibetan Buddhism and reminded that the Tibetan people are seeking genuine autonomy and not independence from China and the struggle is not only political, but also a struggle to preserve Tibetan language, religion, and culture.
Last month, Sikyong visited Latin America and the United States where he engaged in a series of political engagements with lawmakers and government officials, Tibetan community outreach and discussed Tibet on various media platforms. The visit to Latin America was Sikyong Penpa Tsering’s maiden official visit.
The Permanent Strategy Committee convened its 5th strategic meeting last week in Dharamshala, India.
Sikyong is scheduled to visit Canada later this month to attend the Halifax International Security Forum (17-19 November) hosted by the Canadian government.
